Artist Statement: Among the Wild Flowers
 

I have a sincere respect for a flower’s unique grace. Alone or in combination, flowers create a springboard to explore inherent contradictions in life: strength with vulnerability, fleeting yet lasting impact, sweet but fierce nature.

My preference is for arching vines and unexpected organic combinations, the more wild and weedy, the better. I play with the entanglement of twigs and greens, how they compliment each other, mix, and contrast. I love the odd, crooked bloom, reaching for recognition, determined to be seen and heard.

I find inspiration in compositions that celebrate abundance as well as those that embrace a pared down simplicity.  When opposing concepts balance, you start to get at the truth. I work to link individual elements into a collective whole. I separate light and dark but keep them as one. I look at everything to lock in a single expression.  And, most importantly, I seek to render a quality of light that transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.
